Saturday we got up early (after little rest thanks to the man that snores so loud you can hear him down the hall. Pretty sure he might need a CPAP machine), and took 3 buses to Bran. There were all these cute little mid-evil towns along the way with mountains in the background. Really pretty. And the public transportation people in Brasov are really nice. Anyway we got to Bran castle where Dracula stayed once (but not his actual home) and there was snow outside!! More snow than I have ever seen (which really isn't saying much as I haven't seen snow in ~15 years). The castle itself was small, but well restored. It had a fun little courtyard, and all of the doorways were my hieght :-) It apparently was the home of the royal family. Outside there was a shocking lack of tacky vampire stuff (I'll try another castle Kristy). There was a cool food vendor outside though that would wrap bread around a cylinder, coat it in butter, and cook it in front of you over a spit. They would then put a topping on it and hand it over still steaming.
Afterward, we were supposed to go to Rasnov, another city with a castle. 3 people asked the driver "is this Rasnov". He said no, and as soon as he pulls away you see the Rasnov sign on the side of the mountain. They have a habit of putting the names of their towns in Hollywood style signs on mountians. Who would have guessed? Oh well, it is good that we have more time here. We just went back to the hostel and crashed for a few hours before going out to eat.
Everyone kept telling us about this great Mexican (yes I said Mexican) place in the square. Unfortunately, they were booked and we didn't have a reservation (again who would've thought). We wandered around for a while and finally found a chinese place. Inside there was a romanian party with a DJ and 80's music playing. By this time we were tired, wet (raining), and hungry. We just stopped and ate. BTW Romanians are not so good at Chinese food. (the next day we found another road with lots of restaurants and just about kicked ourselves). Oh and another thing, there are more pizza places here than anything else. Romanians love their pizza.
